Background of the Study
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plays a significant role in modern hospital management, contributing to improved efficiency, enhanced patient care, and streamlined operations. In Nigeria, hospitals are increasingly adopting ICT tools such as electronic health records (EHRs), telemedicine, and hospital management software to improve administrative processes and healthcare delivery (Oluwaseun & Adeola, 2024). In Zamfara State, the integration of ICT in hospital management has been slower compared to other regions due to infrastructural challenges and limited training.
This study seeks to examine the role of ICT in enhancing hospital management in Zamfara State, assessing its impact on operational efficiency, patient care, and overall hospital performance.
Statement of the Problem
Many healthcare institutions in Zamfara State still rely on outdated manual processes for managing hospital operations, which affects patient care, decision-making, and overall service delivery. The slow adoption of ICT in these hospitals is due to limited resources, insufficient technical expertise, and infrastructural challenges. Addressing these issues could significantly improve hospital management and healthcare service delivery.
This study investigates the role of ICT in hospital management in Zamfara State, identifying the benefits, challenges, and opportunities for further ICT integration.
Objectives of the Study
1. To examine the role of ICT in hospital management in Zamfara State.
2. To evaluate the impact of ICT on hospital operational efficiency and patient care.
3. To identify the challenges of ICT adoption in hospitals in Zamfara State and propose strategies for improvement.
Research Questions
1. What is the role of ICT in hospital management in Zamfara State?
2. How does ICT impact hospital operational efficiency and patient care in Zamfara State?
3. What challenges hinder the adoption of ICT in hospitals in Zamfara State?
Research Hypotheses
1. ICT plays a significant role in improving hospital management and operational efficiency in Zamfara State.
2. The adoption of ICT in hospitals in Zamfara State significantly improves patient care and decision-making.
3. Challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and training hinder the adoption of ICT in hospitals in Zamfara State.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on hospitals in Zamfara State and examines their use of ICT in management. Limitations include variations in ICT infrastructure across hospitals and difficulty in accessing sensitive hospital management data.
